On behalf of the New Canaan Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), I would like to thank the ACME Store supervisor Nancy Layman along with the rest of New Canaan Store team for their generous donation of sandwiches, cookies and water in support of the NC CERT volunteers during the Family Fourth Celebration on Friday, July 4th.
CERT has been assisting the New Canaan Police for several years with traffic and pedestrian control within Waveny Park during the July 4th Celebration. Our mission is to provide a safe and steady flow for vehicle traffic and provide safe crossings for pedestrians.
ACME’s kind donation of food and much needed water helped to sustain 26 volunteers who worked this event over 5 hours in the heat of the late afternoon and early evening on Friday, July 4th.
Once again we appreciate ACME’s support of this New Canaan community event and our CERT volunteers.
Best Regards,
Jim Davis
Co-Executive Director, New Canaan CERT

To the Editor:
The New Canaan Pops in the Park Committee wishes to express our gratitude to the residents of New Canaan and our neighboring communities for supporting the 4th annual Pops in the Park with the Norwalk Symphony Orchestra.
We estimate that approximately 1,800 people turned out on June 8th for our “Rule Britannia!” concert on the great lawn behind Waveny House.
A big thank you goes to Chris Gruseke and Bankwell, our lead sponsor again this year, as well as Michelle Crookenden and the Board of the Waveny Park Conservancy, who do amazing work in the upkeep of our beautiful park.
Our heartfelt thanks go out to our other generous sponsors:
- New Canaan Community Foundation
- Karl Chevrolet
- Dawn Sterner at Brown Harris Stevens Real Estate
- Walter Stewart’s Market
- Bill Bergner at State Farm Insurance
- New Canaan Music
- The (Chris and Terri) Bell, Campbell, Franco, (Lara and Chris) Kelly, Kerridge, Lowry, Nickerson and Schlein families in New Canaan, Westport, Norwalk and Greenwich
We offer special thanks to all our volunteers, especially the Service League of Boys (SLOBS) and New Canaan Girl Scout Troop 50564.
We are grateful to George Benington and the New Canaan Parks & Recs Commission and to Tucker Murphy, John Howe and Bea Watkins of the Special Events Committee, who are always so helpful in guiding us through all the many details we needed to sort out for the concert.
We would also like to acknowledge the efforts of Officers Chris Dewey and Michael Schnell of the New Canaan Police Department in keeping everyone safe.
We were thrilled to kick off the concert with a beautiful rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner sung by the very talented Isa Temple, a graduating senior at New Canaan High School.
I can’t say enough about our friends at the Norwalk Symphony. Thank you so much to Jonathan Yates, the Symphony’s Music Director and Conductor, as well as the Symphony’s staff and all the members of the orchestra who put on such an amazing concert. A very special thank you goes to Sandra Miklave, the Executive Director of the Symphony and Doug Adams, the Board President of the Norwalk Symphony, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make the concert a success.
Last, but not least, the Pops Committee is a small group of New Canaan residents who helped organize and plan the concert, and I want to recognize all the great work done by my fellow members Matt Campbell, Dawn Sterner, Vanessa Lowry and Susie Kerridge.
We are looking forward to our next concert, which will be America-themed to help celebrate our 250th anniversary and is tentatively scheduled for June 7, 2024 – stay tuned!
Sincerely,
Douglas Kerridge,
Chairman, New Canaan Pops in the Park
