For this new installment of our holiday shopping series, we talked on Saturday to Heather Satin, owner of Wave (here on Instagram) at 86 Elm St.

Here’s a transcription of our interview.

New Canaanite: How’s it going so far this holiday shopping season?

Heather Satin: I feel like it was a delayed start, but it’s really picking up now this weekend, and I think everyone’s getting in their system that they know it’s less than two weeks away.

What kind of things are people looking for?

The fine jewelry’s been really exploding. People are loving the diamonds and the charms. We’re actually doing a flash sale of 14-karat diamond sapphire charms. They’re 20% off and everyone’s loving the wishlist, as well. It just makes it easy for shopping and everyone’s happy in the end because they’re getting what they like, and for the person buying for them, it’s an easy shopping experience.

There have been some changes to parking on Elm in the last couple of months. What are you seeing from your seat here?

I know that I’ve been at the machines many days helping customers because the machines aren’t working accurately and the parking is definitely an issue for traffic in town. And I just feel like the town was not prepared and not ready to implement such a big change at the holiday time. Our selling point was the stairway, to make it like it was easy like Westport to just walk through, right? But there’s no stairway to tell a person and it’s just really an inconvenience. And as I’ve told town members, all you have to do is squash it for a week-and-a-half and hold off till January 1st to implement such a big change in town.

Heather Satin: “We have fun jewelry—beaded necklaces and gold link chains. And we have tons of charms that you could choose from, which will be perfect for yourself or a gift. We can find something for everyone.” Prices range $45 to $60. Photo credit: Michael Dinan

What do you tell people who maybe haven’t had a chance to stop in here? Maybe they’re newer to town, and they’re shopping here for the holidays for the first time.

We’ve been here for 32 years. And so I know the lay of the land in town and what people love. So I buy stuff that covers different price points and different looks just so you can shop here for everything, whether it’s fun jewelry, fine jewelry, clothing, scarves, et cetera.
