New Canaan Police last Friday night arrested a 34-year-old New Haven man by warrant and charged him with criminal violation of a restraining order.
A victim had reported a violation of the order March 20, and authorities took custody of the man at about 9 p.m. on April 28, according to police.
It’s unclear what prompted the original warrant or in what way the man violated it. Police withheld information, saying it’s a domestic matter.
The arrested man has a long history of arrests, including:
- Oct. 12, 2020 (charges brought by New Haven Police Department)—pleaded guilty to third-degree assault and two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment;
- Oct. 24, 2020 (Hamden Police Department)—pleaded guilty to interfering, probation violation, sixth-degree larceny and second-degree breach of peace;
- Feb. 22, 2021 (New Haven Police Department)—pleaded guilty to interfering and second-degree larceny.
Under state law, a person is guilty of the felony-level offense if he or she violates an order “involving the use, attempted use or threatened use of physical force against another” and “threatens, harasses, assaults, molests, sexually assaults or attacks a person in violation of the order,” among other reasons.
He was scheduled to appear May 2 in state Superior Court.
