Beardsley Zoo Expert To Explain Human Ties to Animal Diseases at Men’s Club

Jim Knox, curator of Education for Connecticut’s Beardsley Zoo, will speak to the New Canaan Men’s Club Friday about the connections between animal zoonotic diseases and humans. In his remarks at Morrill Hall in St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, he will describe the links between the relatively recent diseases, such as West Nile, Zika, Corona viruses and Monkeypox, and discuss what individuals can do to protect ourselves and our animals from their dangers.
The meeting will begin at 10 a.m. with Knox’s remarks scheduled to begin around 10:40 a.m., following the club’s business session.
Knox has studied Great White Sharks in South Africa, conducted field research on Alaskan Brown Bears, performed field conservation for Atlantic Salmon, and written nationally for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and for Natural History Magazine.
He has also served as an on-camera wildlife expert for The Today Show and The CBS Early Show, has been a TEDx presenter, and lectured for The Harvard College Conservation Society and The Yale School of The Environment.
Knox has a B.S. in Applied Economics and Business Management, Animal
Science from Cornell.
