For two years now, LiveGirl has focused on a mission to build self-confidence in teenage girls through year-round leadership development and ensure that these girls know that they’re “smart, strong, and special.” The nonprofit organization is holding its second annual Camp LiveGirl at New Canaan High School this week, where girls all over Fairfield County are coming to work together to make new bonds and friendships while developing leadership skills as well as empowering themselves.
Founder, president and executive director of LiveGirl, Sheri West, was able to talk a bit about the message that LiveGirl provides for teenage girls all across Fairfield County.
“The message of leadership and empowerment that LiveGirl provides resonates with girls and I think that there’s such a need out there to support our middle school girls, and we’re doing everything we can to give them leadership skills and to foster the connections and the friendships made to give them self confidence so that they truly believe that they’re smart, strong, and special,” West said.
A cross-community effort that includes local businesses, the school district and nonprofit organizations, this year’s camp included a Leaders in Action course taught by New Canaan CARES, daily inspirational keynote speakers, a Career Expo hosted by New Canaan Women Mean Business and the “LiveGirl Olympics.” Keynote speakers this year include: Nada Stirratt, CEO of Verve; Elle D’Andrea, partner at Deloitte; Lauren Oliver, New York Times bestselling author; and Heidi Sandreuter, vice president at Spencer Stuart.
