Police last week arrested a 77-year-old New Canaan man and charged him with second-degree breach of peace.
At about 2:05 p.m. on May 15 (a Wednesday), officers took a report regarding an incident that had occurred the day before, according to police, when two juveniles were approached by a man in a car telling them, “Give me your backpacks.”
Through an investigation, police identified the driver and brought the misdemeanor charge.
Under state law, a person is guilty of second-degree breach of peace if he or she “[e]ngages in fighting or in violent, tumultuous or threatening behavior in a public place,” among other reasons.
He was released after promising to appear May 22 in state Superior Court.
