New Canaan Police Cite Teens, Twenty-Somethings for Pot Possession

Police cited a 21-year-old Bethel man on minor drug charges after finding a small amount of marijuana and smoking gear in his car during a motor vehicle stop.

At about 2:02 p.m. on July 31, an officer stopped the motorist on Cherry Street after running a license plate that came back with information that it belonged on a different car, according to a police report.

After pulling the car over, the officer approached and spoke to the driver, the report said. The driver’s eyes were bloodshot and glassy, and the officer asked whether there were any drugs in the car, the report said. The motorist said no and consented to a search, the report said. Police found marijuana and smoking gear inside.

The driver was cited for possession of less than .5 ounces of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A 26-year-old Bridgeport woman was cited for possession of less than .5 ounces of marijuana during a motor vehicle stop last Tuesday night.

At about 8:33 p.m. on July 28, an officer stopped a car travelling north on South Avenue because it had no front license plate.

Approaching the car, the officer smelled burnt marijuana and during a subsequent search, found two joints inside the car, the report said.

Police cited a 19-year-old Fairfield, N.J. man on minor drug charges last Sunday night.

At about 10:11 p.m. on July 26, an officer responding to a report of a car parked in a vacant lot on Douglas Road with its lights on saw smoke emitting from the vehicle’s windows, according to a police report.

Approaching, the officer smelled burnt marijuana and found three people in the car. The officer found pot and smoking gear inside the car, and the driver claimed they belonged to him. He was cited for possession of less than .5 ounces of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A Westport teen was cited on minor drug charges last Wednesday night after police found a 17-year-old smoking pot inside a car parked in the roadway downtown.

Two Westport 17-year-olds at about 8:40 p.m. on July 29 were sitting in the car, which wasn’t running, in a lane of traffic on Elm Street near South Avenue, according to a police report.

When an officer approached the car to tell the teens they couldn’t park there, he detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the car, the report said.

A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up pot and smoking gear, the report said. Just one of the boys in the car was cited for the infraction offenses of possession of less than .5 ounces of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
