Following what appear to be still more targeted motor vehicle break-ins around New Canaan, police are urging residents once again to leave no valuables in their cars and to lock them up.
Three break-ins overnight break-ins were reported on Monday, July 27:
A 38-year-old Old Studio Road man said some time between 10 p.m. on July 26 and 6 a.m. the next day, someone took a wallet, $40 in cash, a train ticket and credit card from his unlocked car, parked outside his home.
An old Stamford Road woman told police that her purse, $500 cash, driver’s license and four credit/debit cards were taken from her unlocked car in the driveway some time between 10 p.m. on July 26 and 10:30 a.m. the following day.
Another Old Stamford Road woman told police that an $800 laptop was taken from the unlocked car in her driveway some time between 4:30 p.m. on July 26 and 8:50 a.m. the following morning.
On the other end of town, police are investigating two reported thefts, from a car and home on South Bald Hill Road.
A 40-year-old woman told police that credit cards, Social Security card and driver’s license went missing from a wallet on the passenger seat of her unlocked car, some time after 12:30 a.m. on July 28. Police say there may have been transactions charged to one of the cards and they’re investigating.
At a house nearby, a 47-year-old man told police that he discovered a sliding door to his home office was opened and that he later discovered that credit cards were missing. According to police, the man’s credit card company alerted him to what appeared to be several fraudulent charges, and that’s when he noticed that the cards had gone missing. He believes they went missing some time on the morning of July 29, a police report said.
New Canaan Police Lt. Jason Ferraro said people who have garages need to use them for their cars overnight. “People need to be more proactive,” he said.
