Patricia (Tricia) Hartner

Tricia graduated from New Canaan High School in 1980, where she was captain of the varsity woman’s lacrosse team.   She attended Villanova University where she and John met.   While at Villanova, she was a founding sister of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority chapter.   After graduating, she worked in advertising in New York (Grey, JWT and Ogilvy).   Tricia and John were married on September 23,1989 on Nantucket Island.   In 1990, John’s career took them to Asia where Tricia continued her advertising career.   During their 10 years in Asia (Taiwan, Hong Kong), their three children were born, and they traveled extensively.   In Asia and in all her future travels, Tricia made deep and lasting friendships.   They returned to the US briefly where the family lived in Winnetka IL.  John’s career then took them to Europe, where they lived in Burley, England.   The family thrived in the English countryside and local schools.  While abroad, Tricia kept in close touch with friends and family, which included summers in Nantucket and Christmases in Sunriver, Oregon.  Both of which were special places to Tricia.  After 6 years in Burley, exploring Europe and enjoying hundreds of family welly walks, they returned to the US and settled in Connecticut to be near family and friends. The family resided in Wilton for 9 years and the last 8 years in New Canaan.  While in Wilton, Tricia was involved in the Wilton Pony Club, the Wilton Riding Club and several other local organizations.    In New Canaan, Tricia was actively involved in the New Canaan Garden Club and her love of gardening flourished.  Throughout their many moves, Tricia’s passion for design led to many amazing home renovation projects of which Tricia was extremely proud of. If Tricia wasn’t in the middle of a major renovation project, she was planning one.

Tricia’s sense of adventure, kindness and overall sparkle were known to many as she maintained friendships from all parts of her life.   She was selfless; close to the end of her bout with cancer, she asked that the attention not be on her passing but on others.   She wanted to thank people since she believed her life was the culmination of all those people that were part of it, the people she loved so dearly.

Tricia is survived by her loving husband John F. Hartner, her children who she cherished deeply Kyle, Isabel, Margot Hartner of New Canaan and West Palm Beach.  Tricia was predeceased by her mother, Kathleen (Eagan) Ring.  She is survived by her father John F. Ring Jr. (Rita) of East Williston NY, her brothers Michael (Alicia) Ring of West Palm Beach FL, Timothy (Beth) Ring of Winnetka IL, Daniel Ring of Doylestown, PA and many loving nieces and nephews.
