Police on Friday arrested a 40-year-old Norwalk man by warrant in connection with an incident in January where he sped away from an officer during a traffic stop.
At about 10:30 p.m. on Jan. 5—a Thursday—an officer stopped a motorist who passed him traveling southbound on Weed Street with his high beams illuminated, according to a police report.
As the officer exited his patrol car to approach the stopped vehicle, the motorist drove off, the report said.
Authorities ascertained the driver’s identity through use of a license plate reader on the patrol car, it said.
Police later obtained a warrant on charges of disobeying the signal of an officer, reckless driving and operating a motor vehicle while under suspension.
Officers picked him up at state Superior Court at 9:30 a.m. on July 21, where he was being held on a separate matter.
Connecticut Judicial Branch records show that the same man was arrested by Darien Police on July 12 and charged with second-degree larceny, a felony offense, and by Norwalk Police on July 7 and charged with operating while under suspension and driving under the influence. He also had been charged in May 2015 with sixth-degree larceny, in March 2016 with violation of probation and driving under the influence (in connection with an incident from three years earlier).
He was held on $15,000 bond on New Canaan Police charges and scheduled to appear in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
