Police arrested a 33-year-old New Canaan man before dawn Saturday after he failed field sobriety tests during a motor vehicle stop.

At about 1:42 a.m. on Feb. 13, an officer on patrol spotted the man driving a car while traveling north on Park Street, according to a police report.

The man, an East Avenue resident, was known to the officer to have a suspended Connecticut driver’s license, the report said. The officer stopped the vehicle for that reason and, on approaching, detected alcohol on the man’s breath, the report said.

The motorist failed field sobriety tests and was charged with driving under the influence and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license.

He was released on $250 bond and scheduled to appear Feb. 24 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.
