Police on Friday arrested an 18-year-old Fairfield man and charged him with third-degree forgery, a misdemeanor offense (same level as second-degree breach of peace).
At about 3:41 p.m. on July 10, an officer on patrol in the area of Route 123 and Hill saw a northbound driver using his cellphone, according to a police report.
During a subsequent stop, the officers identified the driver and found that his license had been suspended, the report said.
During a search of the vehicle, the officer found a fake Connecticut driver’s license with the man’s photo but an incorrect birthdate and randomly generated license number, it said.
The man was released after promising to appear July 21 in state Superior Court.
Under state law, a person is guilty of third-degree forgery if he or she “with intent to defraud, deceive or injure another … falsely makes, completes or alters a written instrument, or issues or possesses any written instrument which he knows to be forged.”
