Police on Sunday afternoon arrested a New Canaan man, 17, on drug and motor vehicle charges following a report that he and another juvenile were smoking pot near the Saxe Middle School playground.
At about 2:41 p.m. on March 26, officers were dispatched to the school but prior to their arrival, the juveniles had left the scene in a car and were followed by a witness, according to a police report.
The police caught up to the car and stopped it on Main Street near Harrison Avenue, the report said.
Approaching the vehicle, police spoke with the male operator, 17, and smelled marijuana, it said.
Following an investigation, police found that the driver had less than .5 ounces of marijuana and rolling papers on him, leading to two citations.
Additionally, police charged the juvenile with operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, a misdemeanor offense.
His case was referred to the Juvenile Matters Division of state Superior Court.
