Police confirmed Monday that yet another vehicle—unlocked with keys left inside—has been stolen from New Canaan.

The theft was reported to police at about 10:23 a.m. Saturday and the car was recovered later in the day in Bridgeport, Lt. Jason Ferraro, the New Canaan Police Department’s public information officer, confirmed.

In addition, police on Sunday afternoon received three reports of unlocked cars illegally entered.

The reports came in from Parade Hill Lane, Wahackme Road and Lambert Road between 2:48 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., and in some cases items were removed from the vehicles, police said.

The reports come come as New Canaan and area towns grapple with sharp increases in thefts of and from motor vehicles.

Last month, police reported that three pistols and a shotgun were stolen in an apparent smash-and-grab from a locked vehicle in a Michigan Road driveway.

Through the first 11 months of 2020, larcenies from motor vehicles increased nearly 50% year-over-year, from 30 to 44, police have said. Stolen vehicles increased from 10 to 27 in the same period.
