New Canaan Police on Sept. 27 arrested a 39-year-old Hamden woman and charged her with two counts of risk of injury to a child, a felony offense.

At about 12:44 p.m. on that Saturday, officers responded to the area of 86 New Norwalk Road on a report from a northbound motorist who saw a toddler nearly walk into the roadway, police said.

Through an investigation, authorities found that the woman had left a child home alone for a few minutes to pick up another one of her other children at a tennis club in town, according to a police report.

They placed her under arrest and brought her to police headquarters for processing.

Police released the woman on $1,000 bond and scheduled her to appear Oct. 6 in state Superior Court.
