Tickets for the annual Turkey Bowl are to go on sale from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday in the auxiliary gym at New Canaan High School. They cost $10 apiece (cash) and are for New Canaan residents only, school official say. There’s a two-ticket limit and purchasers must bring photo ID. The rival football game against (ew) Darien High School is to be played at 10 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning, and no tickets will be available at the gate. NCHS recently was ranked the #2 high school in the state by niche.com, Darien #3.
Congratulations to family-owned pet supply retailer Pet Pantry Warehouse on its 75th year in business. Founded in Greenwich, Pet Pantry opened its New Canaan store on Grove Street seven years ago. In marking the milestone, the New Canaan Dog Days organizer is hosting in-store events throughout 2020—such as face painting, balloon art, ice cream socials, educational lectures, contests, portrait sessions and music—and is calling on locals to recommend nonprofit beneficiaries for its newly launched $75,000 fundraising effort. An art gallery on Burtis Avenue hasn’t paid its $4,000 monthly rent in about one year and now owes about $58,000 to its landlord, according to a complaint filed last week in state Superior Court. The owner of 9 Burtis Ave.—a limited liability company that’s owned by three Manhattan residents, according to Connecticut Secretary of the State records—filed papers Nov.
The Westchester, N.Y. woman who in July accused the town of race discrimination and threatened legal action while fighting a $30 parking ticket ended up paying the fine in the end. Farva Jafri paid the $30 on Aug. 6 and used New Canaan’s online system, which included a $3.50 service charge, NewCanaanite.com learned through a public records request.

First Selectman Kevin Moynihan said during a media briefing in his Town Hall office Thursday that two parties came forward Aug. 30 prepared to make formal proposals to acquire Vine Cottage but did so hours after a deadline, prompting the town to extend it. ***

Saying it’s owed more than $19,000 for work and materials related to a Sturbridge Hill Road home-building project that’s nearing completion, a Meriden-based lumber company in February placed a mechanic’s lien against the construction company owned by Fotis Dulos, according to records on file in the Town Clerk’s office. ***
Pet Pantry Warehouse raised $15,000 at the 10th Annual New Canaan Dog Days event last month, funds that will be divided equally between beneficiary organizations Adopt-a-Dog and the New Canaan Nature Center. “We’re really pleased with this year’s event,” Pet Pantry Executive Vice President Adam Jacobson said. His company, which includes a retail store on Grove Street in New Canaan, has donated more than $45,000 to pet rescue groups through the event. ***
