New Canaan Freshman Cagers Earn Split

The NCHS freshman basketball team split a pair of games to move its record to 6-9 on the season. New Canaan 36, Wilton 30

The Rams kicked off the first quarter with a three pointer from Matthew Brand and a lay-up from Jack Richardson in the first two minutes of the game.  The Warriors answered back with two layups. Luke Rwambuya continued the New Canaan drive with a layup, and Wilton hit a three pointer to close the first quarter in a tie 7-7. New Canaan began the second quarter with a layup from Conor West on an assist from CJ D’Virgilio, and Richardson hit a layup. Wilton hit a foul shot and sank two layups on turnovers.

New Canaan Freshman Hoops Splits a Pair

Coming off an overtime win 68-66 versus Trinity Catholic on January 15th, the New Canaan High School boys freshman basketball team, coached by Ralph Rosiclair, split two home games this past week–losing to Trumbull on Monday, January 19th then winning in overtime against Westhill on Friday, January 22nd. Trumbull – 66, New Canaan – 56

New Canaan trailed in the first quarter, 11-19, as Trumbull’s powerful offense and defense didn’t let up. Matthew Brand and Luke Rwambuya each contributed two layups, with Stephen Wronski hitting a two point jumper. Wyatt Wilson sank a foul shot after being fouled on a layup at the end of the first quarter. The Rams fought hard in the second quarter with layups by Ben Sarda, Jack Richardson and Brand as well as a three point buzzer beater by Wronski to close the half 23-30.
