The New Canaan Parking Commission recently received the following appeals letters from ticketed motorists.

“I received a parking ticket when parked in front of J. Crew on 1/18/23. I was meeting an old friend at LePain Quotidien. I am 75 years old and have been shopping in your town for over 47 years. I never, ever knew you had a two hour rule. I went back with my husband and I now see that in fact there are small signs but none was in front of my car car and honestly I was unaware.

‘As a Law Firm Owner I Take the Law Very Seriously’: Parking Ticket Appeals

The New Canaan Parking Commission recently received the following appeals letters from ticketed motorists.

“Ticket says 15 minute parking zone but sign says 30 min parking. Also was previously a 2 hour zone.”

—$25 for overtime parking in 30-minute space on Locust Avenue, at 11:07 a.m. on June 23 (Wilton resident)

“I went to go pay a dollar in quarters in parking space 155 around 9:20 a.m. to buy me some time because all I had was a dollar in coins on me at the time machine was jammed so I was not able to pay I ran inside my job over at Lepain Quotidian to get 3 dollars in charge to park at the back spots where it is 3.00 dollars for 6 hours at 9:23 a.m. my ticket was issued. I did not have time to resolve call and complain about the machine or to even pay but I had all intentions to pay.”

—$25 for unpaid space in Playhouse Lot at 9:23 a.m. on July 15

“Dear Court: Badge 304 blocked my vehicle not permit me to exit a handicap spot that I wanted to enter to clear traffic on Elm Street while waiting for a spot to open. I was forced to remain in the spot and physically blocked by the officer on the street. This is the second time this officer has used her body, words, vehicle and badge in an unprofessional manner.

‘You Can Speak with One of the Managers’: Parking Ticket Appeals

The New Canaan Parking Commission received the following written appeals from ticketed motorists. ***

“Hello, I was stopped outside of Greenology in New Canaan while my partner ran in to grab an Uber order. I was there for less than 2 minutes before I was approached by an extremely rude woman with a horrible attitude pointing her phone camera at me. I rolled down my window and told her I was only stopped here for a minute, we had an order already called in that we were just picking up. She told me that I needed to move my car so I told her I would, at the same time my partner came out and got in the car.

‘This Was Truly an Accident’: Parking Ticket Appeals

The New Canaan Parking Commission recently received the following written appeals from ticketed motorists. ***

“I was simply making a quick delivery to my client, DB fine wines, and had a heavy load. I stayed no more than five minutes, the time to unload, but it was quite heavy and I did not want to break my back.”

—$75 for obstructing a hydrant on Cherry Street, at 1:20 p.m. on Jan. 26 (West Haven resident)

“I received a parking ticket for a commercial vehicle, while I was staying with my hazard lights ON and I was not even at the place for more than 1 minute, while I was checking to see if the place was open to make a delivery.”

—$150 for handicapped zone on Elm Street, at 11:12 a.m. on Jan. 21 (Norwalk resident)

Parking enforcement officer’s note: “This individual was asked not to park in the handicap space and to double park the previous day when making a delivery.”

“I did not realize the spot where I parked was handicapped.
