A fire gutted the master bathroom of an Oak Street home late Thursday, officials say.
No one was injured in the fire at 64 Oak St. Fire dispatch notes show that emergency responders were called at about 11:22 a.m.
“The occupants in the home were alerted to the fire when the smoke detector activated,” Fire Chief Albe Bassett said in a press release. “All the occupants were able to self-evacuate without injury. New Canaan Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the fire and stop any fire extension from the room of origin.”
The fire originated in the master bath. The second floor and attic both had smoke damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Mutual aid was supplied by fire departments out of Westport, Norwalk, Wilton and Vista, N.Y.
“Remember to check your smoke and CO detectors to ensure they are operating correctly,” the press release said. “Closing the doors to rooms limits the fire and smoke spread. The New Canaan Fire Marshal’s Office offers home inspections for our residents.”
Bassett also reminded residents that this week is “Home Fire Sprinkler Week.”
“Consider the option if you are building or remodeling,” the press release said.
