Two New Canaan dogs are in quarantine after biting people here, officials say.

A Lhasa Apso drew blood after nipping someone in the leg at the bottom of Elm Street, according to Officer Maryann Kleinschmitt of the New Canaan Police Department’s animal control unit. That happened around 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 25. Given that state law requires two weeks of confinement, that dog will get out on Tuesday.

When dogs bite people and there’s a visible sign of attack, state law calls for dogs off-property to be quarantined off-property, while those at home when the incidents occur may be quarantined there.

Both of these dogs are being held at a local vet, she said.

The second dog bite occurred at about 12:37 p.m. the following day, on Orchard Street, Kleinschmitt said.

There, a yellow Labrador retriever lunged at and bit a workman on the upper thight as he came walking around a truck, she said. The Lab’s bite was more serious than that of the diminutive Lhasa Apso, she said.

The Lab should get out Wednesday.
