Warrant: Danbury Man Cashed $2,300 Check Without Performing Promised Work on New Canaan Home

Police on April 3 arrested a 29-year-old Danbury man by warrant after he cashed a $2,300 check for work on a New Canaan house but never did the job, court records show.

Authorities became aware of the problem on Jan. 14, when a homeowner filed a complaint with police regarding Q.T. Landscape and Design, according to an arrest warrant application written by Officer Emily Clark and signed March 20 by state Superior Court judge John Blawie.

The company was supposed to “install her well pressure tank,” Clark wrote in the application.

The homeowner wrote a $2,300 check made out to the man and dated Dec. 1, and it was deposited the following day to “C Mundo Travel LLC,” Clark said in her affidavit.

Yet the man never showed up to start the project or returned phone calls, it said.

Eventually, the homeowner found another contractor for the job.

Police left voicemails for the man but he didn’t respond. A voicemail left for the owner of C Mundo Travel LLC also was never returned.

Under state law, a person is guilty of fourth-degree larceny if he or she commits larceny with property or services worth more than $1,000.

Local authorities went to the Danbury Police Department to serve the warrant and arrest the man. He is scheduled to appear April 17 in state Superior Court.
