Ms. Diane Knetzger of New Canaan and Mr. Hugh Knetzger of Greenwich are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Katherine Suzanne Knetzger to Mark Anthony Vitale, son of Dorothy and Aldo Vitale of Brooklyn, NY.
The future bride is a graduate of New Canaan High School and received her bachelors degree in nursing at Villanova University. She went on to positions at Norwalk Hospital and the Hospital for Special Surgery before returning closer to home to work as a registered nurse in the outpatient clinic at Greenwich Hospital. She is now pursuing advanced training through a nurse practitioner degree at Fairfield University while concurrently working in the Greenwich Hospital clinic.
The future groom graduated from Tufts University with a bachelor’s degree in biopsychology, and went on to medical school at Columbia University. After completing a residency in orthopedic surgery at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center and a hand surgery fellowship at the Mayo Clinic, he is now a board-certified hand and upper extremity surgeon working in Greenwich at Orthopaedic and Neurosurgery Specialists (ONS).
The couple looks forward to exchanging wedding vows in Greenwich in June of 2017.

Planning & Zoning Commission member Tony Shizari is to step down from the volunteer position, Chairman John Goodwin said at Tuesday night’s meeting. Goodwin praised Shizari’s work on the commission, calling him “very even-handed.”

The Board of Selectmen has approved the appointment of Stacy Miltenberg as permanent director of the New Canaan Parking Bureau. Congratulations to Stacy, well deserved.

Davis “Buck” Margold
Rand Insurance announced this week that Davis “Buck” Margold, an alumnus of St. Luke’s School in New Canaan as well as Duke University, joined its sales team in the Personal Insurance High Net Worth market segment. A longtime resident of Darien and Rowayton with his wife, Linda, Margold is fully licensed by the state of Connecticut with several advanced educational courses under his belt. He launched his career as a “go-to” person in the local marine business as a yacht broker and specialist, moved on to the world of finance as a member of the New York Stock Exchange for 35 years and joins Rand—a fourth-generation, independently owned and operated insurance agency—wide a circle of contacts.

First Selectman Rob Mallozzi paused during the Jan. 26 board meeting to congratulate Administrative Officer Tom Stadler, who turned 71 that day. Stadler received an ovation from those gathered in the Town Meeting Room and Mallozzi called him “a good, good guy to work with.” Stadler noted that he was born at 6:08 p.m.

The New Canaan High School Scholarship Foundation (NCSF), in honor of its 50th anniversary, will host its first ever NC Color Run on April 29, 2017 at 9am. In this highly anticipated event, students and adults of all ages will run/walk in either the Kids’ Color Dash, which is .8 miles for younger children, or the NC Color Run, an approximate 5k. Both events will have a start/finish line at the high school and will feature Color Stations along the route where powdered, washable paint will be thrown in the air to create the “color run.” There will also be food and a D.J. to celebrate at the start/finish line. “I am thrilled to announce and support the NC Color Run this year, as it is our goal to bring the community together and help us reach our fundraising goals this year,” states William Egan, New Canaan High School Principal and Chairman of NCSF. “We spoke to current students about the success of the traditional scholarship drive and how to make this a more fun and inclusive event. We know children of all ages, elementary through high school, will thoroughly enjoy this fun morning.” The run replaces the traditional scholarship drive, where students went door-to-door each April to solicit donations. Walter Stewart’s Market has also committed to be the first sponsor of the NC Color Run, sponsoring the Green Color Station. Walter Stewart’s has generously partnered with the NCHS Scholarship Foundation for 17 years and recognizes that NCSF is a long-standing community effort to provide need-based financial aid for NCHS graduates pursuing higher education at the undergraduate level. Beginning March 1, Walter Stewart’s will be handing out coloring pages for customers, which will be displayed in the store for the month of April. Drop-off of completed coloring pages will be collected the month of March. To register online for the NC Color Run go to NCSF’s new website at NCHS-SF.org. The cost to register is $30 for the run/walk and $20 for the kids’ dash. New Canaan High School students will also be asked to solicit donations in a Color Run Drive this April. Day-of registration opens at 8 am, with an additional cost of $10. Ages 5 and under are free! The first 500 online registrants will receive a t-shirt and sunglasses to be distributed at the high school a week prior to the event. For more information on the NCSF, please go to NCHS-SF.org. Mothers and daughters had a powerful bonding experience at the LiveGirl workshop. We learned that we've all had hurt feelings, and in turn, we've probably hurt other people's feelings. So, we learned how to better foster positive relationships and how to have the "hard conversations". We also learned how social media is affecting our relationships. Remember, "a million likes will never be enough if you don't like yourself!”

Voices of September 11th’s 9th Annual Always Remember Gala will be held on Friday, March 31 at Guastavino’s, 409 East 59th Street, in New York City. The Honorable James R. Clapper, Former U.S. Director of National Intelligence, will be a featured speaker. Also scheduled to make remarks is Herm Edwards, NFL Analyst at ESPN and former Head Coach of the New York Jets. “VOICES is honored to have Director Clapper provide his insights on his long and distinguished career in national intelligence, which spans several decades,” said VOICES Founding Director Mary Fetchet, whose son Brad perished on 9/11. “It is important to recognize him for his leadership and dedication to protecting our nation, particularly since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.” Mr. Clapper will be presented with the VOICES Building Bridges Award. Initiated in 2004, VOICES Building Bridges Award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the 9/11 community and to our national security. Past recipients include Former FBI Director Robert Mueller, U.K. Prime Minister Tony Blair, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano, 9/11 Commission Co-Chairs Governor Thomas Kean and Lee Hamilton, as well as New York City Police Commissioner Ray Kelly. James Clapper was sworn in as the fourth Director of National Intelligence (DNI) on August 9, 2010. As DNI, Mr. Clapper leads the United States Intelligence Community and served as the principal intelligence advisor to President Obama. Prior to this, Mr. Clapper served for over three years in two Administrations as the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence, where he served as the principal staff assistant and advisor to the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Defense on intelligence, counterintelligence, and security matters for the Department. “We are also privileged that Herm Edwards will be joining us this year,” added Ms. Fetchet. “His life lessons on leadership and conviction will provide uplifting reflections on achieving personal excellence and resilience.” Mr. Edwards will be presented with the inaugural Voices Leadership Award. Herm Edwards was Head Coach of the New York Jets from 2001-2005 and joined ESPN in March 2009 as an NFL studio analyst. He appears on NFL Live, SportsCenter and ESPN Radio, while also contributing to ESPN’s coverage of Super Bowl week.
