New Canaan police used DNA evidence obtained from a smashed jewelry store window downtown to arrest a 37-year-old New Jersey man in connection with a robbery in broad daylight last November.

Ronald A. McIntyre was charged with first-degree conspiracy to commit larceny.
According to a written statement from New Canaan Police Chief Krolikowski, McIntyre and three others at about 4 p.m. on Nov. 6 tried to enter Henry C. Reid & Son Jewelers on Elm Street.
When a suspicious employee locked the front door, one of them smashed through a display window with a sledgehammer and reached in, grabbing three Rolexes worth a total of about $55,000, the chief said.
The suspects then ran behind a row of business and likely fled in a Chevrolet Malibu, possibly gold in color, with tinted windows and New York registration plates, Krolikowski said.

Police recovered blood and skin tissue evidence at the scene, he said.
“The success of this investigation is the direct result of the hard work and dedication of the members of the New Canaan Police Department’s Investigative Section and Patrol Division, the Connecticut State Forensic Laboratory as well as interstate law enforcement cooperation,” Krolikowski said.
Police on Tuesday arrested McIntyre in New Jersey and his bond was set at $500,000, Krolikowski said.
New Canaan police are working with the FBI and New Jersey officials to identify the other three suspects, he said.
