The New Canaan Police Department is poised this week to add two new officers to its ranks.
Juan Carlos Jerez, 33, and Autumn L. Sanborn, 25, will be sworn in at 11 a.m. Friday at Town Hall.
Jerez started his career in law enforcement with NYPD and worked most recently as a police officer for the San Jose Police Department, according to a press release issued by NCPD.
He graduated from Richard R. Green High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from John Jay College.
Sanborn, who is from Milford, worked most recently as a general manager for Vive Fitness. She graduated from Point Pleasant Borough High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in national security from the University of New Haven.
“Both candidates participated in the winter 2023 recruitment process for Police Officer with the New Canaan Police Department,” the press release said. “They were two of over 80 candidates that submitted eligible applications for employment. They both successfully endured an intensive testing and selection process including a written examination, physical agility testing, interview panel, polygraph, psychological evaluation, background investigation, medical testing, and Police Commission interview.”
Jerez holds an out-of-state certification and will start his comparative certification training for Connecticut next month, the press release said. Then he’ll undergo about eight weeks of field training here prior to starting as a patrol officer for a probationary period. Sanborn will enter the Connecticut Police Academy in Meriden next month, and will undergo at least 400 hours of field training prior to her certification as a NCPD officer.
