CT Sandwich Co., which opened on Pine Street in October 2013 and established itself as a go-to favorite for many teens, families and professionals in New Canaan, will close after Saturday, its workers said.

It wasn’t immediately clear why the eatery is closing, whether the business has been sold or whether the closing is temporary or permanent—its talented chef-owner, Eugene Chun, could not immediately be reached for comment.

Best known for its Sweet & Spicy sandwich (roasted chicken, bacon, cheddar, blackberry jam with side of spicy mayo), green fresh-made juice (kale, green apple, pineapple, spinach, ginger) and banana pudding—a faithful recreation of the Magnolia Bakery classic—CT Sandwich Co. offered an affordable option at a great location, near the train station and Mead Park.

It featured a gourmet deli with innovative sandwiches, soups, salads and fresh-squeezed juices and a rotating special menu of Chun’s tasty creations—he even brought Bingsu, a cold Korean dessert, to the deli. (His meatloaf special remains one of New Canaan’s best-ever sandwiches—meatloaf, onions, fontina cheese and caramelized onions on grilled country bread.)

Chun himself is a 2007 Wilton High School graduate who fell in love with cooking while pursuing his economics degree at Holy Cross, and would go on to enroll in Manhattan’s French Culinary Institute, honing his new trade and even opening a second location in Cos Cob once New Canaan was up and running.

  1. A truly sad loss for the town. I’ve never known a better food coma than the one that comes with the breakfast Mexican burrito. Or the Turkey Loaded. Or the Spicy Italian. Or the Thanksgiving Sandwich. Or the Pork Kimchi. Or the….

  2. I’d add Walter Stewart’s daily hot soup assortment is tops. They post the daily flavors on their instagram feed (as well as sandwiches). A daily must-read. Keep an eye out for the Lasagna & Turkey Sausage. There should be a prize or something for that one.

    • I second the Walter Stewart’s soups—one of New Canaan’s best kept culinary secrets. The one that they do with the chicken and peanut soup is the best tasting thing in the world.
