Assault, Breach of Peace Charges for New Canaan Woman, 53, After Fight Downtown

Police on Wednesday night arrested a 53-year-old New Canaan woman and charged her with second-degree breach of peace and third-degree assault.

At about 4:58 p.m., officers were dispatched to Forest Street near the New Canaan Diner on a report of a fight in progress between two people, officials said.

Arriving officers found that the fight between the arrested woman, a Forest Street resident, and another woman, had ended, according to a police report. The victim in the fight is an acquaintance of the arrested woman, the report said. The two had gotten into a dispute that turned physical, it said. The arrested woman was the aggressor. According to the police report, she had opened the driver’s door of the victim’s car and began striking her in the face. 

Police arrested her at the scene on the two misdemeanor charges.

She was released after promising to appear Nov. 9 in state Superior Court.
