Polly Ruyl Luster, 98

Polly was born in Brooklyn, NY on August 10, 1925, the daughter of the late Dr. James Peter Ruyl and Dorothy Freeman Ruyl. She spent her early years in Pelham Manor, New York where she made friends who were lifelong. She graduated from Emma Willard School in 1943, where she also made lifelong friends. She attended Pine Manor Junior College and after graduation she worked in advertising in New York City. Polly married Carl John Luster in 1950 at Christ Church, Pelham Manor, NY.

Thomas Henry Dubay, 66

Thomas Henry Dubay, a lifelong resident of New Canaan, CT passed away on December 12, 2023. Tom was born on June 6, 1957 in Stamford Connecticut, to the late Robert Eugene “Sid” Dubay and Rachel Violette Dubay. Tom attended St. Aloysius Catholic School, and graduated from New Canaan High School in 1975. He was most recently employed at the Gulf Station in New Canaan.

John Alexander Edwards, Jr., 81

It is with heavy hearts but fond memories that we remember John Alexander Edwards, Jr. of New Canaan, CT. John passed away on December 2, 2023 from complications of Parkinson’s disease. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He was 81. 

John was born November 8, 1942 in Greenwich, CT to John Alexander Edwards and Reid Grandy Edwards. He attended Greenwich Country Day School, followed by Taft and then Boston University.

Suzanne de Lima Knowles, 77

Suzanne de Lima Knowles, known by friends and family as Sue II, and by her grandchildren as Nunu, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on October 25, 2023 at the age of 77. Sue II, the eldest daughter of Oscar and Sue de Lima, grew up in North Stamford and attended New Canaan Country School through 9th grade, where she would later send her four children and would serve on its Board of Trustees. She attended high school at Rosemary Hall in Greenwich, where she would become friends with Nancy Knowles, whose older brother, Jimmy Knowles, would become the love of Sue II’s life. She graduated from Wheaton College with a BA and received her MA from Middlebury College in Madrid. Sue II was a loving wife and a loyal partner to Jimmy.  She adored him.  She admired his passion for art and innovation, and supported him consistently and wholeheartedly.

Elizabeth Clancy Grady Kennard, 85

Elizabeth Clancy Grady Kennard, known as Betty, was born on February 1, 1938 in Savannah, Georgia to Mary Clancy Grady and Steve Edward Grady. She died, after a long illness, on All Saints Day, November 1, 2023 in New Canaan, Connecticut at the age of 85. A long-time resident of New Canaan since 1973, Betty never lost her Southern charm or accent. She was proud of her Southern heritage and Irish ancestry. From her early childhood, she excelled in ballet and became an accomplished classical ballet dancer while studying under Ebba Olesen Thomson.
