Biz on Biz: Zumbach Likes the Canali Suits at Family Britches

As part of the “Biz on Biz” series—where local business owners give us tips about favorite products or services at other businesses—we stopped by Zumbach’s Gourmet Coffee on Pine Street. Owner Doug Zumbach’s spotlighted design solutions for “unique and different” Christmas gifts, elm for the popular restaurant’s selection of pasta dishes and Family Britches for its menswear. “Family Britches is a great store, with a nice owner, ” said Zumbach, who opened his eponymous coffee shop in 1992 and offers 30 varieties of hand-roasted brews. “I’m a big fan of Canali suits. They have a really nice line and selection of those there.

Biz on Biz: Halo Studios Loves Mrs. Green’s Juices and Smoothies

On a recent afternoon I popped my head into Halo Studios, over on Grove Street, to see what they find to be the best New Canaan product or service around, the basis of our “Biz on Biz” feature on NewCanaanite.com. I spoke to Halo office manager, personal trainer, and massage therapist Charlotte Zabrodsky about what local business she thinks deserves to be recognized for their greatness. Zabrodsky said that Mrs. Green’s juices and smoothies are worth a look, specifically employee and juice/smoothie connoisseur, Lisa Tamburri, have performed spectacularly in creating unique and delicious juices and smoothies. “My favorite place, which I’ve been finding myself going to almost every day is Mrs. Green’s because Lisa makes the best smoothies,”Zabrodsky said. “They’re really good because you can customize them and the other day I asked for a completely random ingredient that she didn’t have directly in front of her and she went out of her way to go and find it in one of the aisles which I thought was a very thoughtful gesture.”

Biz on Biz: Weed & Duryea on Favorite New Canaan Foods

In this installment of Biz on Biz, we traveled to Weed & Duryea on Grove Street to ask about a favorite product or service of another business in New Canaan. The hardware store, which has been running as long as our town’s railroad system, was founded soon after Francis E. Weed returned from the Civil War in 1865, historians say. Inside, we asked retail manager Barry Coleman about local favorites and he responded by reviewing New Canaan eateries he likes most. The first place he mentioned was Chinese restaurant Ching’s Table, right on Main Street. “I’ve been going there for years,” said Coleman, a Trumbull resident.

Biz on Biz: Mackenzie’s Enjoys Eating At Ching’s Table

For this installment of Biz on Biz—a chance for local business owners and workers to tell us about a favorite product or service from a fellow merchant—we caught up with South Avenue mainstay Mackenzie’s. When we decided to to take a look inside the newspaper, candy, greeting card, and office supply store, we spoke with owner, Jim Berry, to find out about his favorite places in New Canaan. Immediately Berry responded telling the New Canaanite that he liked all of the restaurants in New Canaan. “Well I like the restaurants,” Berry said. “They are all very good.”

Although Berry likes all of the restuarants in town, Ching’s Table would have to be favorite.
