Deborah Grzelecki Rooney

Deborah Grzelecki Rooney passed away on August 10, 2023 at home surrounded by her family. Debbie’s passing ends her years-long battle with a degenerative neurological disorder. 

Debbie raised her two grown daughters in New Canaan and was a resident for more than three decades. She was the head fundraiser for the Parent-Teacher Council of East School, head of the Little Newcomers Club, and a Girl Scout leader. She will be remembered as a strong leader with a creative spirit. 
Debbie was a graduate of Gettysburg College, where she majored in art history. This was the beginning of her passion for artistic creativity and expression.

Barbara S. Tolles, 94

September 3, 1928 to July 30, 2023
Barbara S. Tolles passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on July 30, 2023. She was a 56-year resident of New Canaan. She was born to Rachael and Frank Svec in Norwalk CT, and graduated from Norwalk schools. Barbara had many interests including singing inspired by her father and grandfather who were musicians and owned a music store. She was also quite athletic, playing tennis, swimming, hiking, riding horses and skiing.

Suzanne Tompkins Ramseur, 98

Suzanne Tompkins Ramseur, 98, of New Canaan, CT, passed away on Monday, July 10th, 2023 after a long and beautiful life. 

Sue was born on February 23, 1925, to Florence McKean Tompkins and Ralph Lewis Tompkins in New York City, NY. She graduated from Miss Porter’s School in 1943 and continued as a participant in the Ancients. She greatly enjoyed volunteering at the Oxridge Club where she helped handicapped children ride horses. 
At the age of 10, Sue met Thomas Michael Ramseur II in Nantucket, MA. They spent their first date watching The Wizard of Oz and were inseparable every summer thereafter. Once married, Sue and Tom went on to have three children, Thomas Michael Ramseur III, Andrew McKean Ramseur and Katie Porter Ramseur. 
Sue was the embodiment of style, compassion and grace right until the very end of her life.

Elizabeth Joan Ives, 87

Elizabeth Joan Ives, of New Canaan, passed away after a short illness.  She was 87. Joan was born in 1935 in Belfast, Northern Ireland to Dr. James and Dr. Elizabeth Wheeler.  She was preceded in death by her brother Ken and sister Mollie. Joan was extremely proud of her Irish heritage and had very fond memories of her childhood and wonderful times spent with her large extended family. Joan attended her secondary education at St. Andrews before graduating from Richmond in Belfast.  At Richmond, she played Rounders and Tennis.  After a brief stay in London, Joan came to the United States to help care for her God Son and met the love of her life, Philip Ives, in Annisquam, Massachusetts.  They married in Belfast on May 16th 1964 and moved to New Canaan in 1968 where they raised their three sons.

Merrilee Moore Langton, 92

Merrilee Moore Langton, 92, of Naples, FL passed away peacefully on Monday, July 3, 2023 in the presence of her family. 

She was born in Tulsa, OK on June 22, 1931, and received her degree in Education from Stanford University. Merrilee was a dedicated and loving wife to her husband, Bruce, for 65 years, with whom she had 4 children: Theo, Lori Kelly, Scott and Michael. She was a much loved “MyMy” and “Grammie” to her 8 grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, James and Lucille Rule Moore; her husband, Bruce and brother, James. Merrilee was an avid and excellent tennis player, a golfer, a devoted gardener and painter, donating her time and energy to volunteer efforts such as Meals On Wheels and The Garden Club at her previous home in Stamford, CT.
