John Tewksbury Banigan, 75

John Tewksbury Banigan’s impact will live on after his peaceful death on July 28, 2024. At the age of 75, after a courageous battle with cancer, he died at home in New Canaan, Connecticut while surrounded by loved ones. John was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania to Helen Tewksbury Neidig and William Banigan. He grew up in Dalton, Pennsylvania spending much of his time outdoors trapping and fishing. He and Gail met at age six and were high school sweethearts.

Donald Craig Gilbert, 91

Donald Craig Gilbert of New Canaan, CT, passed away July 13, 2024, at home with his wife by his side. Don, whose working life started in the Marine Corps and ended on Madison Avenue, was 91. He flew fighter jets in the 1950s, worked for ad giant J. Walter Thompson in the 1960s, and ran his own Manhattan consulting and executive search firm for 40 years, specializing in advertising agencies and marketing companies. He was a pilot, sailor, skier, avid reader and a collector of art. Don was born in New York City on Jan.

Raechelle Freeman, 80

Raechelle Freeman—remembered locally as Shelley Dinan, a career speech pathologist and special education teacher for New Canaan Public Schools—died peacefully Sunday at Stamford Hospital, family by her side, following a courageous two-and-a-half year battle with myelofibrosis. She was 80. Born Raechelle Sandra Ashbaugh on Nov. 15, 1943 in Neptune, N.J., she was the daughter of Ivan and Bernice Blum Ashbaugh. 

Energetic, smart, irreverent and fun, she grew up on the Jersey Shore in Belmar with her little sister, Karen, graduating from Manasquan High School. Through her education and professional work, Shelley soon began migrating north toward New Canaan.

Juanita Faye Cooper Coleman, 91

Juanita Faye Cooper Coleman passed peacefully on Sunday, July 14, 2024 at Brightview Senior Living in Norwalk, CT. Juanita was born January 12, 1933 in Jackson, Tennessee, where she resided the majority of her life. She lived in France for two years when her husband was an Army cryptographer. She moved to Norwalk, CT to be near family in November 2022. Juanita was predeceased by her husband, Walter E. Coleman, Jr., of 63 years, as well as two sisters, Jean Rollins and JoAnn Masey.

Lee Hallam Cantrell Bouton

Lee Hallam Cantrell Bouton passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 10th, 2024 with her loving husband Robert by her side. Lee was born in Norwalk, CT in 1946 and graduated from New Canaan High School in 1964. She began working at the New Canaan Savings Bank before relocating to Ft. Benning, GA while her husband served for the U.S. Army. After returning to New Canaan in 1973, Lee began enriching the many lives of children and families as a teacher at the United Methodist Church in New Canaan.
