New Canaan Board of Realtors President Janis Hennessy said: “First quarter 2018 brought a small decrease in unit sales as well as dollar volumes across Fairfield County. With strong economic news and consumer confidence, we believe buyers will override concerns about the tax bill and a demand for housing will start to increase. In April, New Canaan showed a decrease in sales of 55 percent from same time 2017, but what the statistics do not reflect are the 55 accepted offers and pending sales that will close soon. Collectively we agree that the stormy weather delayed the start of our Spring market.” The median sales price went up, from $1,298,750 to $1,490,000, in the same period. “Buyers are getting used to value, value, value in all price categories.  As a result, we have seen the high end of the market (over $4 million) respond and there are four homes under contract,” she said.
