The New Canaan Building Department on Nov. 6 received an application to rebuild the Canaan Parish housing complex at Route 123 and Lakeview. This phase of the project will cost an estimated $33 million and includes abatement, demolition and new building construction of “building #2” at 186 Lakeview Ave., the application said. The 60-unit Section 8 housing complex is being rebuilt in a single five-story structure and there also will be a new, 40-unit structure of the same height. Both buildings would count toward the state’s affordable housing requirement.

The Charity Link Club at New Canaan High School recently held a food drive at Walter Stewart’s Market to benefit Person-to-Person in Darien. They raised more than $1,100 in cash donations and 24 full bags of groceries by speaking to Stewart’s shoppers about their project, asking for either cash or food donations. The club’s co-presidents are Madison “Maddie” Grenauer and Eleanor Lapin. Charity Link members also include Belle Dunlap, Megan Tappe , Kate Fideli, Claire Meli, Sydney Lanxon, Anna Grzymski and Maeson Wagner.

Two more local restaurants have passed unannounced inspections by the New Canaan Health Department—Cava on Forest Street scored 94 out of 100 during an Oct. 30, inspection, and Pinocchio Pizza on Main Street also scored 94 out of 100 during a Nov. 2 inspection, records show.

During a walk Monday in Bristow Bird Sanctuary, Patrick Comins, executive director of the Connecticut Audubon, along with New Canaan Conservation Commission Chair Chris Schipper and Commissioner Marty McLaughlin spotted a white throated sparrow, hermit thrush and barred owl (pictured here). Comins advising the Conservation Commission on bird habitat and care in the 17-acre town property, adjacent to and accessible from Mead Park (as well as a pull-off along Route 106). Comins was presented with a 1915 edition of “Wild Bird Encounters” by Ernest Harold Baynes and 1935 edition of “Birdcraft” by Mabel Osgood Wright from Schipper and McLaughlin.

The Performing Arts Conservatory of New Canaan announced this week that it’s bringing in two master teachers, Samantha Sayah and Justine Goggin, who began teaching this fall semester. Sayah is a New York City-based actor, singer, dancer, musician and teaching artist. She recently performed the role of Jasmine in Aladdin at the Tokyo Disney Center and the role of Girl in the musical, Once. A graduate of Dartmouth, Justine Goggin is a professional actor and vocalist who recently performed her cabaret, Back to the Garden, in New York City. She also was featured in Summer Theatre of New Canaan’s productions of The Light Princess and Pippin and in the New London Playhouse in Newsies and Camelot.
