New Canaan Police at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday received a report of multiple items stolen from a shop at 8 Elm St., including jewelry, over the past two weeks. The street number is the address of Taylors Luggage.

A company called Ventana has spent $6.1 million to purchase a contiguous cluster of four properties on Burtis Avenue near Cherry Street, according to property transfers recorded Dec. 13 in the Town Clerk’s office.

The Board of Education following an executive session during its regular meeting Monday night voted unanimously in favor a motion to authorize Superintendent of Schools Dr. Bryan Luizzi to sign an agreement regarding the town’s planned purchase and subsequent occupancy of 220 Elm St. for New Canaan Public Schools offices and programming. The Board of Selectmen during a special meeting held Wednesday also approved the agreement.

Kindergarten pre-registration for next year is open on the New Canaan Public Schools website. Children entering kindergarten for the 2022-23 school year must be five years old on or before Jan. 1, 2023. More information is available here.

Police have launched a fraud investigation following a report received from 3 Forest St. at about 11:41 a.m. last Friday of a check cashed fraudulently.

  • The Congregational Church of New Canaan will have a Family Service with Nativity Pageant at 4 p.m., Worship Services at 6 and 7 p.m., the caroling at 6:30 p.m. and a Candlelight Service at 11 p.m..
  • First Presbyterian Church of New Canaan will hold its Christmas Eve Family Service from 5:30 to 6 p.m. outside around the Christmas Tree and Fire Pit. Christmas Eve Candlelight Communion Service will be virtual via local live from 10 to 11 p.m. on Dec. 24.  Click here for the link to the service, or visit the website at www.fpcnc.org.
  • United Methodist Church of New Canaan will hold a traditional service of carols and candle lighting at 5 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
  • St. Mark’s Episcopal Church will hold its “World’s Greatest Outdoor Christmas Pageant with Holy Eucharist” at 5 p.m. on Dec. 24 (bring your chairs), with a Musical Prelude scheduled for 9:30 p.m. and a Festival Holy Eucharist at 10 p.m. On Christmas Day, the Holy Eucharist will be held at 10 a.m. All will be streamed via the St. Mark’s website.

The Town Players of New Canaan are offering a live music series at the Powerhouse Theatre beginning Dec. 29, an event that features two young people from New Canaan. The opening act will be Julia Jewel, a 2019 New Canaan High School graduate who earned a bachelor’s degree in music from Berklee College of Music in Boston this year, graduating magna cum laude.

Police at 12:07 p.m. on Dec. 17 received a report of AirPods stolen from the YMCA.

Finally, Jack McEnany and Karen Babrowicz, who are being evicted from a Richmond Hill Road dwelling they moved into in October for failing to pay $2,600 in monthly rent, according to court papers, last week responded to the landlord’s complaint. McEnany in a Dec. 16 filing said, “Landlord has been ignoring our emails regarding issues in the house. Broke the lease twice.” Babrowicz in a Dec. 15 filing said she “vacated the property 12/4 and 12/5.”
