New Canaan Police at about 8:24 p.m. Monday impounded three dogs found roaming together at South Avenue and Brooks Road. They included a Labrador retriever mix and Samoyed, and all three dogs were known to each other, according to Animal Control Officer Allyson Halm. They’ve been reunited with their owner.

The New Canaan Registrars of Voters released an updated voter count for the town ahead of next week’s primaries. Here’s a look at the numbers compared to the last midterm election in 2018:

Police on Wednesday morning shot and killed a sick raccoon on Valley Road. Residents there had set a “Havahart” live animal trap to try and catch a woodchuck that had burrowed under their garage, and the raccoon entered it. Halm said that Animal Control “discourages any Havahart trapping for any reason,” and gave the homeowners several humane deterrents for the woodchuck.

The New Yorker magazine on Monday published an article that spotlights 2015 NCHS grad and comedian Charlie Sosnick.

A 1934-built, 12,000-square-foot home at 707 West Road sold for $4.4 million, according to a property transfer recorded July 29, 2022 in the Town Clerk’s office. The property had last sold in 2001 for $4.7 million, tax records show.

Congratulations to 2018 NCHS grad and commencement speaker Molly Cioffi on her recent graduation from Lesley University in Cambridge, Mass. after successfully completing the Threshold Program for people with diverse learning, developmental, and intellectual disabilities. The owners of an Oak Street home on Monday filed eviction papers in state Superior Court, a tenant there failed to pay $3,300 in monthly rent starting May 1 under a one-year lease that started in March.

Albert Kokoth, the New Canaan man charged one year ago with his wife’s murder on Down River Road, is scheduled to appear Aug. 16 in state Superior Court, records show. He pleaded not guilty to murder, as well as second-degree assault and illegal discharge of a firearm.

Congratulations to New Canaan golfer Cameron Besaw on becoming the 20th Carter Cup champion at Baltusrol. He played 36-holes on Tuesday, scoring even par in the first round and 8 under par in the second round.  Cameron won the tournament by a record 10 strokes, had 9 birdies in the second round, and 13 birdies for the day. His score of 64 for the 2nd round was the lowest in tournament history by two strokes.

The town paid a consultant on New Canaan’s application for a moratorium from the state’s affordable housing law $8,520, according to a June 14 invoice received by NewCanaanite.com through a public records request.

The NCHS Class of ’77 has a website up for its 45th reunion, to be held at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24 at Shore & Country Club in Norwalk. New Canaan Library (9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday) and Lapham Community Center (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Friday) are both open to residents as cooling centers this week as temperatures reach the mid-90s.

  1. Not a good day for the poor racoon. The irony is rich. First he gets stuck in a
    “Havaheart”trap, only to be let out and then shot in the head… I’m sure in a ‘
    “humane manner”

    • A few years ago the relative of a famous WWII general was arrested to shooting a rabid raccoon in his back woods; a cautionary tale for those who take the law into their own hands.
