Members of the Parking Commission during a discussion about a ticket during their regular meeting Wednesday called for clarity about which spaces are designated for New Canaan Library patrons and which are paid. Parking Manager Stacey Miltenberg responded that spaces with numbers are paid, and the others are for library visitors.

We hear U.S. Rep. Jim Himes (D-4) stopped by Town Hall on Dec. 21 to meet First Selectman Dionna Carlson and talk about upcoming projects that the federal government could help fund. Members of the Department of Public Works took Himes and Carlson to the Wastewater Treatment Plant to point out how certain systems need to be updated soon.

The Carriage Barn Arts Center is presenting a new exhibition of works by members of the New Canaan Sculpture Group. “Encounters with Sculpture” will run Jan. 7-19 and feature several works in clay, bronze, stone and other media by 13 members of the group. The New Canaan Sculpture Group is a collaborative of Fairfield County artists who practice in studio space located on the lower level of the Carriage Barn. Exhibit hours are Wednesday-Saturday 10am-3pm and Sunday 1-5pm. There will be a closing reception with the artists on January 19 from 4-6pm.

The New Canaan Community Emergency Response Team or ‘CERT’ is open to taking on new volunteers. Twice-weekly training sessions in disaster preparedness, basic first aid, fire safety, search-and-rescue, incident command and emergency communications will be held starting Jan. 24 and run for three weeks (six sessions total). Authorities reported at the most recent Police Commission meeting that identity theft-related calls from residents increased from 40 to 58 year-over-year through the first 11 months of 2023.

New Canaan Police after stopping a car on Route 123 at about 9:42 p.m. on Dec. 27 for failing to properly display its license plate, cited the driver—a 30-year-old Bridgeport woman—for motor vehicle-related charges as well as third-degree forgery.
