Friends and family of a 2009 New Canaan High School graduate who died suddenly this summer honored their loved one at a fundraiser on Saturday.
Participating in a rappelling event in Stamford to raise funds and awareness for Shatterproof, “Team E” was named by Andrea Reinhardt for her brother Evan, who passed in July at age 24. Together with fellow New Canaanite Miles Turpin, Sara Sparks of Fairfield and Dan Egan of Norwalk, “Team E” rappelled 21 stories down Landmark Square as part of Shatterproof’s national movement to fight drug and alcohol addiction. With offices in Norwalk and New York City, Shatterproof is holding 26 rappelling events nationally this year.

Demolition on Locust Avenue 10 12 15
Uploaded by Michael Dinan on 2015-10-13.
Demolition is underway at 16-18 Locust Ave., an Italianate-style building that historians say went up prior to 1851 with later additions, and which now will make way for the planned new Post Office.
According to town resident Mimi Findlay of the New Canaan Preservation Alliance: “New Canaan Land Records indicate that the earliest section of the house was built by merchant Seymour Comstock sometime prior to 1851 at which time he sold it to Peter G. Sherwood who does not appear in local historical materials. Subsequent owners included clothing cutter James Guthrie who acquired it in 1882 and clothing manufacturer Henry B. Rogers who acquired it in 1884. The building is an excellent example of a mid-19th century architecture to which additional wings were added as the building’s use changed.”

Finally, here are some photos, from Kimberly Norton, of South School Walk to School Day and Slow Down in Our Town. Re-launched by Norton last year, SDOT is a community-wide initiative that strives to improve pedestrian safety, reduce speeding and eliminate texting and driving in New Canaan. Police, fire, public works and traffic officials are part of the initiative. On Friday, SDOT participated in South School Walk to School Day by giving out pedestrian and bike safety coloring books to raise awareness about these issues, especially for our elementary school age children and families. Safe School Walking routes are part of our priorities.
