Congratulations to New Canaan brothers Jayden and Jaxon Grayson, who this week earned the American Red Cross’ National Lifesaving Award for saving swimmers from a riptide off the coast of Rhode Island in 2024. They received the award at a ceremony on the campus of King School in Stamford, FOX 61 reports.

Funded by the New Canaan Community Foundation, Family Centers is launching a new support group for “the sandwich generation”—adults who are caring for both their children and aging parents. Meeting at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays at New Canaan Library, the first group starts June 8 and will meet for eight weeks, with at least two additional support groups planned.

The Carriage Barn Arts Center is preparing to launch Art In The Windows in partnership with the New Canaan Chamber of Commerce. The annual exhibition begins next Friday, June 5 with more than 100 works of art on display and for sale through June 27 in 70 downtown store and business windows. New this year will be a “Community Choice Award” allowing shoppers to vote for their favorite pieces and win various prizes.

The Town Players of New Canaan will present the Tony Award-winning musical “Once,” opening June 5 and running through June 21 at the Powerhouse Theatre in Waveny. “This heartfelt and inspiring musical takes audiences to the streets of Dublin, where an Irish musician and an immigrant Czech pianist meet through their shared love of music,” organizers say. “As their friendship deepens, they discover the transformative power of art, hope, and human connection.” Tickets here.

The town has spent $11,305 in legal fees since receiving an application, now before the Planning & Zoning Commission, for a 14-unit affordable housing structure on Parade Hill Road, according to a legal bill approved last week by the selectmen.

Congratulations to New Canaan Library on being named one of four recipients of the 2026 CT State Library Excellence in Public Libraries Award, presented by Connecticut State Library. “This award recognizes outstanding public libraries that demonstrate excellence in service, innovative programming, and meaningful community impact,” the library said in a press release. “New Canaan Library was awarded this honor in the category of Accessibility and Inclusion, specifically for its comprehensive and evolving programs for neurodiverse children, teens, and adults, as well as educational and support resources for their families and caregivers.”
