Police arrested a 37-year-old Forest Street man by warrant last Wednesday and charged him with criminal violation of a protective order, a felony offense.
Though banned from contacting his ex-wife, the man sent her several text messages and tried to reach her by phone, police said.
He has been arrested several times in the past 2.5 years, on charges that include third-degree strangulation, disorderly conduct, risk of injury to a minor and violating a restraining order, police said.
The ex-wife, a Ridgefield resident, contacted New Canaan police directly and the man turned himself in on a warrant at about 10:45 p.m. on Sept. 10, police said. He was held on $1,000 bond and scheduled to appear Sept. 11 in state Superior Court in Norwalk.

A 69-year-old Darien woman who was ticketed in April for having her dog off-leash at Waveny on Sunday turned herself in on a warrant for failing to respond to the ticket.
She charged with failure to appear, released on $250 bond and scheduled to appear Sept. 26 in state Superior Court in Stamford.
