The New Canaan Fire Department at about noon on Feb. 6 found a fire burning in the utility room of the attic and “extending into a finished area” of the home, Chief Albe Bassett said in a press release.
“The seat of the fire was difficult to initially locate because of the energy efficient windows and insulation,” Bassett said. “Once the fire was knocked down, extensive overhaul of the spray foam insulation was conducted.”
The New Canaan Fire Marshal is actively investigating the cause of the fire.
“The area of origin was in the utility room in the attic but the cause has not been determined,” the chief said in the press release. “All the floors of the house had significant water damage. No injuries have been reported. No residents have been displaced.”
Firefighters from Westport, Norwalk, Noroton Heights, Darien and Wilton assisted in the incident.
“We thank them for their support,” Bassett said.
