Police last week arrested a 23-year-old Millport Avenue man by warrant and charged him with third-degree burglary, larceny of a motor vehicle and first-degree criminal mischief.
The warrant stems from an investigation into a burglary reported to police on Dec. 14, officials say.
Under state law, a person commits third-degree burglary “when he enters or remains unlawfully in a building with intent to commit a crime therein.”
New Canaan Police took custody of the man and Millport and Lakeview Avenues at about 6:28 p.m. on Jan. 12.
The arrested man has an extensive criminal history.
According to Connecticut Judicial Branch records, he was convicted of interfering with an officer and criminal violation of a restraining order in July 2022 (Stamford Police arrest), violation of a protective order in July 2022 (New Canaan Police) and third-degree assault in February 2023 (Connecticut State Police).
He also faces charges of first-degree larceny and evading responsibility (Stamford Police, June 2023 arrest).
Following last week’s recent warrant arrest, he was held on $100,000 bond and scheduled to appear Jan. 16 in state Superior Court.
