New Canaan Man, 42, Charged with Violating Protective Order

Police on Thursday night arrested a 42-year-old New Canaan man by warrant and charged him with criminal violation of a standing criminal protective order.

At about 9:07 p.m. on July 1, officers were dispatched to the lobby at police headquarters on a report of a domestic issue at a Parade Hill Road house between the man and another person, officials said.

A computer check of his name showed that police had an active arrest warrant out for the man in connection with a previous incident.

According to Connecticut Judicial Branch records, New Canaan Police last September charged the man with second-degree breach of peace, and he still has not pleaded.

The officers travel to the man’s Parade Hill Road home and took custody of him on an active warrant for the new felony-level charge.

It wasn’t clear why a protective order had been put in place, what were its terms, how the man violated them, who is protected under the order or whether that person is related to the man. Police withheld details, saying it’s a domestic matter.

He was released on $50,000 bond and scheduled to appear Friday in state Superior Court.
