Two teenage New Canaan sisters were cited by police for possession of alcohol by a minor during an underage drinking party at their Church Street home Friday night.
The older sister, 18, additionally was charged with permitting minors to possess alcohol, a misdemeanor offense.
Police responded to reports of the party at about 9:53 p.m. and, on arriving, found about 50 teens scattering from a basement at the residence and into the street, according to Sgt. Peter Condos.
“They were all trying to get out of the basement doors at once,” Condos said, citing this past weekend’s tragic fatal death of a 15-year-old girl in Ridgefield by way of adding how dangerous it is for so many kids to be milling about when others are trying to drive away.
New Canaan police arriving on scene at Church Street found 164 opened beer bottles as well as bottles of rum and vodka, Condos said.
Police in interviewing the 18-year-old discovered that the party had swelled beyond its original size due in part to Snapchat, a popular photo-messaging application for mobile devices that gives users the ability to delete what they post within a specified amount of time.
The Church Street underage drinking party is the latest in a series of similar incidents involving New Canaan teens and liquor.
