New Canaan Police on April 26 arrested a 35-year-old Derby man by warrant and charged him with fourth-degree larceny, fifth-degree larceny and five counts of sixth-degree larceny.

The warrant stemmed from a check fraud investigation that dates to June 2022, according to a police report. Connecticut Judicial Branch records show that the offenses had been committed between May 15 and Aug. 15.

Under state law, a person is guilty of fourth-degree larceny if the value of the property or service in question exceeds $1,000.

Police charged the man with the misdemeanor offenses at department headquarters. He was released on $25,000 bond and scheduled to appear May 17 in state Superior Court.
