Police on Friday afternoon cited a 21-year-old Hampton Lane man on minor drug charges after officers saw marijuana and smoking gear in plain view while serving a protective order against him at home.

At about 1:04 p.m. on Dec. 4, officers were dispatched to the home to serve the protective order, issued by the state of Massachusetts. (Details of the order itself, such as the victim and specific allegations against the New Canaan man, were not immediately available.)

The man’s mother, who owns the home, answered the door and granted police permission to go up to her son’s bedroom, according to a police report.

There, police entered the room and immediately saw a glass bong, green metal grinder and several clear plastic bags with marijuana residue in them, the report said.

They cited the man for possession of less than .5 ounces of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
