The New Canaan Fire and Police Departments last week announced promotions and as well as a new hire among the town’s bravest and finest.
The Police Commission during a special meeting Dec. 15 promoted Sgt. Louis Gannon to lieutenant, and promoted officer Thomas Callinan to sergeant, according to a press release issued by Police Chief Leon Krolikowski.
The Fire Department promoted Michael Jackson to fire lieutenant, and also formally welcomed new full-time firefighter Chris Isaacs to the NCFD ranks, according to a press release issued by Interim Fire Chief Albe Bassett.
Fire
Jackson, an eight-year veteran of the New Canaan Fire Department, holds a bachelor’s degree and is working toward a master’s in Emergency Management, Bassett said in the press release.
“We would also like to again welcome Firefighter Christopher Isaacs to the department,” he said. “Firefighter Isaacs was a member of the New Canaan Fire Company for 10 years and has been hired as a member of the career staff. Firefighter Isaacs just completed 15 weeks of recruit firefighter training and has started on shift.”
Police
Gannon during a 30-year career with NCPD has performed the roles of patrol sergeant, youth officer, training officer, investigator and acting lieutenant, Krolikowski said.
Gannon, who earned a bachelor’s degree in Law Enforcement Administration from the University of New Haven, also has served as town coordinator for the CT Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run, and implemented NCPD’s Bicycle Patrol Unit.
“In addition, Lieutenant Gannon was one of the two founding members of the Department’s Special Response Team,” Krolikowski said. “He has earned the Chief’s Award of Excellence for Physical Fitness, the Commissioners’ Physical Fitness Award and the Perkin’s Award for marksmanship.”
Callinan in eight years with the department has served as acting sergeant and field training officer, and is a member of the NCPD Special Response Team.
Awards that he’s already won at NCPD includie the Lt. Stephen W. Wood Officer of the Year Award, Meritorious Service, Life Saving, and the Courage of CT Award for saving the life of a fellow New Canaan police officer, Krolikowski said. He has also been awarded the Commissioners’ Physical Fitness award, and Unit Citations.
Callinan holds a bachelor’s degree Business Economics with a concentration in Financial Management from SUNY Cortland.
“We are proud of these newly promoted officers, their accomplishments and their dedication to our department and town,” the chief said in the press release. “These promotions will help us to continually provide the highest level of service to our community.”
