New Canaan Police on Wednesday said investigators have received more than 1,200 tips in the case of a local woman missing since May 24. Since issuing a call for video surveillance in the case of Jennifer Dulos, nearly 80 businesses and residents responded, according to Lt. Jason Ferraro. “In addition both physical and digital evidence is continuing to be processed and reviewed to aide in the investigation,” Ferraro said. Tips can be called in at 203-594-3544, emailed to FindJenniferDulos@newcanaanct.gov or submitted anonymously at www.FindJenniferDulos.com. On the same day, the two-month mark since Dulos’s disappearance, family friend Carrie Luft issued a statement.

The New Canaan Building Department on July 9 issued an after-the-fact permit for $5,000 of work done at 82 Old Kings Highway. The permit, which generated $675 in fees for the town, involved turning a half-bath into a full bathroom by adding a shower stall. ***

Waveny LifeCare Network residents and staff celebrated the U.S. National Women’s Soccer Team win over England in the World Cup semifinal on Tuesday, July 2. The game was watched on Waveny’s new 75 inch television, an addition to Waveny’s therapeutic recreation offerings made possible through a grant by the Rotary Club of New Canaan, and from donations directed to Waveny in honor of volunteer Ruby Bierman’s bat mitzvah.

Burglaries in New Canaan are down to four so far this year compared to eight at the same time last year, officials said at the most recent meeting of the Police Commission. Motor vehicle crashes involving property damage are down “significantly,” from 171 to 193, Police Chief Leon Krolikowski said during the Commission’s June 19 meeting, though crashes that involve injuries are up to 18 versus 13 one year ago.

Congratulations to New Canaan’s Steve Benko and Garland Allen, who are to be inducted this summer into the FCIAC Hall of Fame. The conference’s banquet is to be held June 13 at the Norwalk Inn. Many know Benko as the town’s recreation director. He is being honored for “officiating and cross country roles,” according to the FCIAC. Allen serves on New Canaan’s Youth Sports Committee and he is to be honored for “Greenwich athletics,” the conference said.

The owner of 69 Hoyt Farms Road paid the town $1,225 in fees after the Building Department issued an after-the-fact permit for $60,000 of work that he’d done on his own home. The work involved finishing a 917-square-foot basement, creating a bathroom, pantry, main room and back room plus a food prep area, according to the permit. “Kindly note that all the above work was done without obtaining the necessary permits,” the permit said. “This means that all required inspections during construction were not performed.”

The town has scheduled 421 assessment appeal hearings in March, according to a schedule published on the municipal website. Officials have said the town could see a reduction of about $20 million to its Grand List after the Board of Assessment Appeals finishes its work.

New Canaan’s 10 Most Popular Cars

The two oldest automobiles registered in New Canaan are from 1915, tax records show—a Ford Model T and a Harley Davidson Twin. After that, the oldest autos are a 1922 Seagrave Pumper, 1923 Model T, 1923 Alfa Romeo and 1927 Rolls Royce, according to the recently completed Grand List, which includes taxable real and motor vehicle property. Once again in New Canaan—host of the popular Caffeine & Carburetors car show and home to 92-year-old dealership in Karl Chevrolet, one of the best-established companies in town—two makes of cars stand out atop the list of the most commonly owned vehicles. Both BMW and Chevrolet cracked the 1,500 mark, whereas no other single car company reached 1,200 locally registered vehicles.

Other notable makes that didn’t crack the top-10 include Land Rover (511), Porsche (473), Volkswagen (464), Volvo (427), Acura (387) and Nissan (345). Asked how he’d describe the tastes of local auto enthusiasts, Caffeine & Carburetors founder Doug Zumbach said “Porsches top the list.”
