Who Knew? New Canaan on Ice

‘Who Knew?’ is sponsored by Walter Stewart’s Market. Is it too hot for opinions this week? Because I have one. Everyone can openly adopt precisely one form of snobbery. You can be a wine aficionado, an ardent collector of vinyl, or an art-house cinephile, but combine all three into one personality, and you’d best tread lightly.

‘We Love the People of New Canaan’: Patisserie Salzburg Opens on Elm Street

After months of anticipation, Patisserie Salzburg bakery and café has opened in the heart of downtown New Canaan. Offering a wide range of sandwiches, soups and salads in addition to its specialty baked goods, desserts and coffees, the European-Style café at 25 Elm St. is open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days per week. “We are very happy,” owner Par Shakiban said Wednesday morning amid a lunchtime rush at the brightly lit, cozy space where several socially distanced diners sat down for food both inside and out on the sidewalk. “We love the people in New Canaan because they’ve been more than gracious in welcoming us with an open heart.

‘Patisserie Salzburg’ Bakery To Open Sept. 18 on Elm Street

A European-style café offering a wide range of fresh-baked goods is on track to open Sept. 18 in the heart of downtown New Canaan, according to its owner. Patisserie Salzburg will open at 25 Elm St., according to co-owner Par Shakiban, who launched the business 26 years ago in Rye, N.Y. and has another location in Stamford, where he lives. “I am very, very excited because a lot of people from New Canaan, they did travel to my other locations and they are giving me a very positive response,” he told NewCanaanite.com. “I think New Canaan needs a good European-style pastry and baked goods shop and we hope we are going to fill in that gap there.”

Shakiban owns Patisserie Salzburg with Albana Murati, also of Stamford.
