Woman Heads to Emergency Room after Ponus Ridge Dog Bites Her Arm

A boxer mix is under quarantine through Tuesday after biting a woman last week while she tried to change bed sheets in a Ponus Ridge home, officials say.

It happened around 4 p.m. on Dec. 16, according to Animal Control Office Maryann Kleinschmitt, and the bite was bad enough to send the woman to the hospital.

The animal was sleeping in the bed when she reached and grabbed its collar, frightening the dog, which bit her on the arms, Kleinschmitt said.

“It’s not the worst bite, but not the best,” she said.

The woman’s arm was lacerated badly and bruised, as well, Kleinschmitt said.

Because the boxer mix—a 4-year-old rescued from Florida—bit the woman in its own home, the animal will undergo its quarantine there, Kleinschmitt said.

“They [the dog’s owners] haven’t had the dog all that long,” she said.

The woman went to Bridgeport Hospital’s emergency department for treatment around 5:15 p.m. on the day it happened, and told New Canaan police about the incident the following day.
