Big Win over Ridgefield for Boys 2007 Red U10

The New Canaan 2007 Boys Red team’s winning streak continued on Sunday under sunny skies and against a strong and skillful Ridgefield team. The boys are 5-1 for the season with three games to go.
Ridgefield came out attacking with two corners and an attempt on goal in the first five minutes but the New Canaan offense seized an opportunity ten minutes into the game. A strong run down the wing by Dylan Ho, a neat pass by Max Maggard and a solid finish by Sajan Shah saw the ball slide past the Ridgefield goalie into the right hand corner of the goal. 1-0 New Canaan. Ridgefield then put on a sustained counter attack but Chase Harden, Brooks Walker, Joaquin Blanco and Rogan Lowe were very solid in defense and kept the Ridgefield attacks at bay going into half time.
Ridgefield came out strongly again in the second half and Sajan Shah in goal had to make five tough saves to keep New Canaan ahead including tipping one attempt over the cross bar in a show of athleticism. Finally, New Canaan caught a break when Jackson Mountford took the ball up the middle of the field and overpowered the Ridgefield goalie with a hard shot into the center. New Canaan’s offense of Shane McMahon, Drew DeGaetano, William Arnold fought hard to keep possession of the ball.
Sensing victory Maggard then quickly made it 3-0 to New Canaan with a long distance shot that took Ridgefield by surprise as it curled over the goalie. Finally, just to make sure of the win Javier Minuesa skillfully outmaneuvered the Ridgefield defenders in the box and scored a tidy fourth goal before the whistle blew. Final score 4-0 New Canaan!
