Arthur Bettauer, 102

Arthur Bettauer of New Canaan, CT. died peacefully at home on May 12, 2022 at the age of 102. Art graduated from Townsend Harris High School in New York in 1936 and the School of Business at City College of New York in 1939 (BBA) and worked as a junior accountant until joining the US Army in 1942.  He also received his CPA certificate in 1942.  In 1970 he received an MBA from New York University. After basic training at Camp Jackson, SC, Art attended Officers Candidate School at Fort Sill, OK and was commissioned as a 2nd lieutenant. He was assigned to the 777th Field Artillery Battalion, which entered combat in Holland, Belgium and Germany, as a forward and air observer with 98 air combat missions.  Art was awarded an Air Medal plus one oak leaf cluster and was promoted to 1st lieutenant.  After combat, he joined the Military Government in Germany and was promoted to Captain. In 1946 Art was employed by Price Waterhouse, becoming a partner in charge of its New York office.  He moved with his family from New York City to New Canaan in 1972 and retired in 1980.

Frederick Jacob Eydt, 93

Frederick Jacob Eydt (Fred) died peacefully after a short illness on May 17th, 2022 in Vero Beach, Florida. He was 93 years old. Fred was born on March 9th, 1929 in Buffalo, New York to Harold and Edna Heintz Eydt. Fred grew up in Binghamton New York attending Binghamton Central High School where he excelled in the sport of basketball. His talent on the court was recognized and he was recruited to play for Cornell University where he graduated in 1952 with a degree in hospitality from the Cornell School of Hotel Administration.

Allison Garver Caesar, 100

Allison Garver Caesar – July 8, 2021 at age 100.  

Predeceased by Henry A Caesar, husband of 63 years. Devoted mother to Sanderson (Elizabeth), Porter (Susan), Austin (Margaretta) and John.  Adored grandmother to 8 and great grandmother to 13.  Over 65 years as dedicated volunteer to community of New Canaan, CT. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 111 Oenoke Ridge, New Canaan, CT 06840, a reception will follow the service. Doris (Dede) Lynch Nahrwold, 99

After a brief illness, Doris (Dede) Lynch Nahrwold passed away peacefully on April 28, 2022. Born in Allentown, Pennsylvania on July 13, 1922, Dede was the daughter of the late William Henry and Della (Idye) Lynch. She spent most of her adult life between New Canaan, Connecticut, Naples, Florida and with her daughter Nancy and family in Greenwich, CT. Dede is predeceased by her loving husband of 35 years, Morton Frederick Nahrwold. She is survived by her son Bryan Scott Nahrwold and his wife Martha Dixon Nahrwold of Salt Lake City, UT and their children Dixon, Paul and his wife Talana Jayne and grandchild Naomi; daughter Nancy Nahrwold Waesche and her husband J. Edward Waesche IV of Greenwich, CT and their children Ward, Woody and William.

Elizabeth M. Byrne, 92

Elizabeth M. Byrne, age 92, of Southbury, Ct., formerly Irvington, NY, passed away on May 28, 2022. Known as “Betty”, she was born on July 27, 1929 to the late Joseph and Mary McGovern Costello in Yonkers, NY.  After graduating from Irvington High School class of 1947, she went on to study X-ray technology at the College of Saint Vincent in Bronx, NY.  After college, she was employed in xray hospital positions for many years in the New York City area.  Betty was united in marriage to Harrison Condon of Yonkers, NY on May 22, 1954 and they enjoyed ten years together until his untimely death. 

Afterwards, she kickstarted her career by heading up the position of Benefits Administrator for the Burnham Corporation of Irvington, NY from where she retired in 1993.  During that time, she volunteered on the Irvington Ambulance Corp, taught CCD, and was a Cub Scout Leader. Eventually, Betty remarried on May 25, 1973 to Daniel M. Byrne of White Plains, NY residing in Irvington until 1998 when they relocated to Southbury, Ct. with the both of them living out their twilight years actively involved in this community. Betty is survived by her son, Richard (Rick) and his wife, Phyl, and two grandchildren, Timothy and Abigail, of New Canaan, Ct.
